PREP ROUNDUP: Huron blanks Port Clinton

HURON — Huron shut out Port Clinton 11-0 on Monday in the only baseball game played in the SBC Bay Division. While most games were rained out, Klein-Campbell Field proved to be firm enough to play on. "I put a little raking in, but it was in pretty good shape," Huron coach Dan Lindsley said. "It was definitely playable. I don't know how." The victory means the Tigers can clinch no worse than a share of the Bay title with a home win Wednesday against Willard. Huron last won an Sandusky Bay Conference title in 2015. Senior Cole Parker threw a three-hit shutout in the five-inning rout of the Redskins, striking out six. "He had it going. He's given up one earned run all year so his ERA is probably down to point-1 (0.10)," Lindsley said. Zach Murray led the Tigers at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI. Murray's triple was the game's only extra-base hit. "Murray's been hitting the ball pretty well lately, going to all parts of the field," Lindsley said. Parker was 2-for-3 and Kadyn Yates drove in two runs with a single in Huron's seven-run fourth. Huron improved to 16-6, 8-1 in the Bay. Edison is 7-1 in the Bay and visits Oak Harbor on Wednesday before hosting Margaretta in the Bay finale next Wednesday. The game was originally scheduled for Monday but was rained out. SOFTBALL Huron 12, Port Clinton 2 (5 innings) DANBURY TWP. -- Huron cruised past Port Clinton to get within one victory of clinching no worse than a tie for the SBC Bay title. Eliza Maloney went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI and hit her eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot that ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Maloney also got the pitching win with two scoreless innings in the circle. Rae Roldan and Jess Holsapple each went 3-for-3 with three runs scored for the Tigers (15-5, 7-2). Mallory Major had two hits and three RBI and Meadow Bess also drove in three runs. The Huron home game was played on Danbury's artificial turf field.
