Company making $411M investment in area

HURON — A worldwide manufacturing company specializing in producing recycled materials believes it can maintain a high level of sustainability and success in Huron. Just look at the evidence in the form of a recently revealed $411 million capital improvement investment happening right now, according to JobsOhio, a private agency tracking statewide economic development projects. Back in December, the Ardagh Group announced it would expand its operations into Ohio — and, more specifically, in Huron — by occupying space in the former International Automotive Components (IAC) building. It's located in the city's Sawmill Parkway development. This investment represents a necessary amount to expand and update the building with proper infrastructure, equipment, utilities and other necessities. Ardagh previously indicated it would create 200 jobs, translating to an annual payroll of roughly $16 million, in Huron. From previously reported information, here are some additional details: • What: The factory will produce recyclable beverage cans and tops of multiple sizes for sparkling water, soft drinks, teas and alcoholic beverages. It's known as a global supplier for some of the more recognizable brands. It operates 56 metal and glass production facilities in 12 countries. "Our products deliver high recycle and content rates, which support customer sustainability targets and contribute to a circular economy," company CEO Claude Marbach said in a previously released statement. "This latest expansion is indicative of Ardagh's consistent commitment to supporting customer growth." • When: Ardagh wants to begin production at the Huron facility by late 2021. It will start with three production lines. • Why: "This project forms as part of Ardagh's Group's global $2.1 billion business growth investment program (between 2021 and 2024) and is being undertaken to meet fast-growing demand as consumers increasingly recognize the environmental and quality advantages of beverage cans," Marbach said in a newer and different statement.
