BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: Huron's Cole Parker fires 1-hitter in opener against Sailors

VERMILION — Cole Parker threw a one-hit shutout in a 4-0 win over Vermilion in the first game of an SBC crossover baseball doubleheader on Saturday. The game was scoreless before the Tigers (4-2) scored four unearned runs in the seventh inning, taking advantage of a pair of Vermilion errors. Parker struck out seven. Vermilion's Ethan Hendrickson, who also went the distance, struck out eight. In Game 2, Vermilion freshman Riley Kearns threw a complete game two-hitter, earning his first varsity win in a 9-2 Sailors victory. Jack Wells and Cody Shultz each had two hits and two RBI for the Sailors (2-3). Huron visits Edison on Monday in Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division play.
