PREP ROUNDUP: Huron sweeps Perkins in baseball, softball

PERKINS TWP. — Huron scored 12 runs in the first three innings and went on to defeat Perkins 15-3 in six innings in an SBC crossover baseball game Friday. Tigers leadoff hitter Cody Mamere led the way by going 5 for 5 with four runs scored. Cole Parker doubled, tripled and drove in four runs for the Tigers, who improved to 3-1. Joey Schade was 3 for 3 with three RBI. Zach Murray had two hits, scored three runs and had two RBI and Justin Overmyer added two hits. Tigers senior Chris Hand went five innings on the mound to pick up the win and improve to 2-0 on the season. He allowed two earned runs. Tyler Walton picked up two of the Pirates' three hits with a single and double. Huron visits Vermilion on Saturday for an 11 a.m. doubleheader before opening Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division play Monday at Edison. Ross leadoff hitter Adam Hrynciw grounded into a fielder's choice with two out in the bottom of the seventh. He stole second base and advanced to third on an error. Hrynciw scored the winning run on a single by Owen Wright. Hrynciw and Wright each had two hits for the Little Giants (3-1) and Hrynciw had three RBI. The Redmen tied the game in the top of the seventh. Aiden Cheek doubled and scored on a Hunter Etienne single to pull Bellevue to within 8-6. Etienne later scored when Preston Ray stole second and Ray scored the tying run on a Mason Bova two-out single. Bova went 3 for 4 for Bellevue (1-3). Meadow Bess went 3 for 4 and scored four runs for the Tigers, who scored four runs in the first inning. Rae Roldan (two doubles), Carly Chambers and Emma Shaw each had three hits for Huron and Roldan drove in two. Mallory Majoy added a two-run double and drove in another run on a groundout. Tigers sophomore Eliza Maloney threw three perfect innings, striking out eight, to get the pitching win.
