Majoy's outing again paces Pirates

PERKINS TWP. — During the second inning, Perkins starting pitcher Trent Majoy's hat was blown off during a pitch.The wind may have been the most annoying thing Majoy dealt with in Monday's 9-0 Sandusky Bay Conference win over visiting Port Clinton.Majoy threw six shutout innings and was staked a 6-0 lead after one inning for his second consecutive start as the Pirates improved to 9-6 overall and 6-3 in the SBC."We said how much of a carbon copy this game was of the Huron game," Perkins coach Chris Walton said. "When we get Trent a couple runs, I feel very comfortable. He is going to battle, and there is not going to be much traffic on the bases when he is pitching."Majoy was the beneficiary of six runs in his last start against Huron last Wednesday. Majoy allowed just a single run in that 8-1 win, but was untouched for a run against the Redskins. He allowed just two singles, while walking four and striking out five."My offense is good and it is so helpful. When you are in the driver's seat, it is easier to pitch than when you are behind," Majoy said. "I threw a lot of fastballs today. They were hitting them, but my defense was making plays."Cody Best and Dawson Nason each singled to left field to lead off the Perkins half of the first inning. Luke Zahnhiser and Majoy each singled to bring in a run. Jack Biedenbach then laid down a bunt, but the throw to first was off line, allowing Zahniser to score.Dylan Nason was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Drew Crabtree recorded a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead. One batter later, No. 9 hitter Anthony Jolly rocked a shot to deep right field. Biedenbach and Dylan Nason scored as Jolly ended up on third with a triple for two RBIs.On the other side, Majoy was shutting down the Port Clinton (5-12, 0-7) offense with ease. Alex Koskela led off the game with a single, but was doubled off one batter later. Kyle Fitzpatrick singled in the third inning with two outs, but a groundout ended the frame."Dylan Nason, our sophomore catcher, called a beautiful game," Walton said. "With Trent, he is such a smart pitcher and he has a good arm angle and gets a lot of movement with his pitches."Despite the big first inning, Fitzpatrick kept the Pirates at bay until the fifth inning when Perkins got three unearned runs. A wild pitch and error brought home Dylan Nason. Crabtree walked and Nick Hiss doubled. A ball hit by Jolly resulted in a fielding and throwing error — giving the Redskins six errors on the day, and allowing Crabtree and Hiss to score."They hit better than us and played better than us," Port Clinton coach Tracy Bodi said. "We gave them too many extra outs.
