Good fortunes continue for Kharma

SANDUSKY — To an unsuspecting outsider walking by her bustling downtown Sandusky business, Jami Camp must have done something really good in a past life.Many regard her shop, Kharma Salon & Boutique, as one of the best places for a haircut, massage and other beauty treatments anywhere within the Firelands. The full-service hair salon, on West Water Street beside Lena Brows & Beauty Bar, also offers many special services, including Brazilian blowouts, tape-in extensions, eyelash extensions and new vegan gel polishes."We service around 275 clients a week all year-round," said Camp, who employs about a dozen people today. "We don't have a slow time of the year."Camp opened Kharma in 2011, or about five years before downtown's resurgence truly kicked into overdrive."When I was looking to move this way, John Roesch, the previous landlord, offered me this location at a great price and let me completely remodel," Camp said. "The view of the lake is perfect. How could I say, 'No'?"Many credit Kharma as a foundational pillar in stabilizing Sandusky's premier business district during an uncertain time.The result: Kharma's success convinced other entrepreneurs for companies — such as the neighboring Hotel Kilbourne, Paddle & Climb, The Marketplace at Cooke, among others — they, too, could do pursue a dream, prosper and triumph in downtown.Camp welcomes the many ongoing construction projects across downtown, such as a new City Hall, which includes upper-floor apartments and a street-level market. The investments further solidify her decision to open a business, and now stay, in Sandusky."It's great when there are so many new things, and people are visiting downtown," Camp said.She encourages anyone, no matter man or woman, to visit Kharma."Kharma is a beautiful salon with a comfortable atmosphere," Camp said.
