'Pork for Paws' to help four-legged friends

FREMONT— The Humane Society of Sandusky County, along with Jimmy G's Barbecue, is hosting a "Pork for Paws" fundraiser Thursday."Please help support the humane society by coming to eat or carry out at Jimmy G's," said Pam Babione, executive director for the Humane Society of Sandusky County.The meal is a pulled pork sandwich, fries and a bottle of water — all for a donation."Everything we do, we do the hard way," said Jim Gippert, owner of Jimmy G's Barbecue."We don't take any shortcuts and that is true for the pulled pork."That includes making his own sauces and curing his own meats, Gippert said. The ethos of the business is to build community and to bless those doing good work in the community.The humane society operates with limited funds. This fundraiser will help cover general operating costs."Our monthly expenses can be as high as $20,000," Babione said. That includes food, vet care, utility bills and the salary of the organization's humane agent, who investigates reports of neglect and cruelty."People don't realize we pay his salary.
