Perkins board approves school calendar

PERKINS TWP. — Perkins Schools provided updates from this week's public board meeting. Board members took action by: • Approving the 2021-22 district calendar; The first day of school is Aug. 26; winter break lasts from Dec. 20, 2021, through Jan. 2, 2022, with school resuming Jan. 3; spring break will be April 15-24; graduation is scheduled for June 5 and students' last day is June 7. • Accepting the retirements of Furry Elementary music teacher Lori Conkey and physical education teacher Lori Hafner, which take effect at the school year's end; Conkey has worked in the district for about 20 years — as a full-time teacher since 2008 and as a substitute before that. Hafner will close out her career with 32 years at Perkins Schools, treasurer Dan Bowman said. • Renewing three-year contracts for five administrators/supervisors: transportation supervisor Randy Conaway; special education director Christine Guss; literacy coach Marcy Henry; student information specialist, EMIS coordinator and testing coordinator Annette Sennish and student services administrator and psychologist Hillary Turner.
