Street named after 'Mr. Milan'

MILAN TWP. — What better way to celebrate a man's upcoming 102nd birthday than naming the street he lives on after him? It's the gift both Milan Township trustees and Erie County commissioners gave to Charles Lindecamp, unofficially known as Mr. Milan. During Wednesday's public meeting, commissioners renamed Old U.S. 250 in Milan Township to Lindecamp Road. Lindecamp has lived on the street since 1946. A short ceremony occurred at the chambers, where commissioners presented Lindecamp's granddaughter Heather, with a ceremonial street sign. Officials from both governments commented on the matter: • Erie County commissioner Matt Old: We were very pleased to rename Old Rt. 250 after Mr. Lindecamp. He has been a leader in our community for decades, and this is a well-deserved and well-earned honor. He is a great man. • Milan Township trustee Dan Frederick: The trustees and residents of Milan Township are thankful for the commissioners' help in permanently recognizing such an important community leader as Charles Lindecamp. We all wish CJ a happy birthday No. 102. Lindecamp turns 102 on March 24. The reasons for a road name change Frederick previously offered up two reasons why he proposed the name change to county commissioners: • "Most importantly, we are pleased to recognize township resident Charles J. Lindecamp who has lived on this road since 1946 and has served as an admired and influential community leader over the last 74 years." • "Secondly, the current road name of Old U.S. 250 is not recognized by the U.S. Post Office or popular GIS navigational systems, such as Google Maps, which contributes to an inconvenient and potentially dangerous inability to properly locate house addresses on this particular road."
