Maca Root on the move

SANDUSKY — A popular Sandusky business strives for a smooth transition as it moves from one downtown storefront to another. The Maca Root Juice Bar & Eatery recently began a relocation process, shifting from inside Paddle & Climb, 305 E. Water St., to 216 E. Water St. The latter location previously served as a home for Lake Erie Shores & Islands, Erie County's tourism bureau. Maca Root should operate from its new space in March. Until then, employees still welcome customers inside Paddle & Climb for full service. "Two years ago, we had a passion for smoothies and healthy food, and then we found this tiny little space and thought we'd give it a go," according to a joint statement from spouses and business co-owners Brad and Kelly VanCauwenbergh. Continued growth, both in customers and products served — smoothies, juices, avocado toasts, protein bowls, salads, coffees along with vegan-friendly and gluten-free options — led to them requiring a larger space. "We need to expand," the statement read. "We're doubling, or more, in size and moving a block down the street to an adorable warehouse. We need more space to prep all these delicious clean meals for you. We can't wait to share the space with you."
