Storm dumps more than a foot of snow

SANDUSKY — This week's winter storm pounded northern Ohio, closing schools and triggering a Level 3 snow emergency in Erie County. The National Weather Service said 14 inches fell in Sandusky. Anywhere from 8-14 inches of snow were reported in areas of Ottawa, Huron and Sandusky counties. "Warmer air aloft caused a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain across the east," the weather service's Cleveland office posted online. "This impacted the amount of snow that fell." Provided/NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE After heavy snow began to fall at about 5 p.m. Monday, local sheriff's offices began updating county road advisory levels from a Level 2 to a Level 3 — the highest possible level. Snow continued overnight and into the early Tuesday morning, and all four counties downgraded back to Level 2 at about noon.
