Fitness family continues to grow

SANDUSKY — For the last five years, Tim Dorsey has made it his mission to encourage others to just keep moving.Since the best way to lead is by example, that's exactly what the fitness guru has been doing, as he continues to expand his gym, Tim Dorsey Fitness, to offer more.Tim Dorsey Fitness moved to its location, a 2,300-square foot facility in the Sandusky Plaza, in early 2016, but according to Dorsey, they're running out of space."We're kind of busting out of the building, which is good," Dorsey laughed. "We offer small group and large group training, as well as individual training and we've added a lot of different training options and elements."In addition to the 40 classes Dorsey leads weekly, the training center now offers two special interest fitness classes: Kickboxing and Dance2Fit.The Dance2Fit classes feature a mix of routines to help target arms, legs, glutes, and the mid-section, while helping improve overall strength, endurance and rhythm."It's kind of like Zumba, but it's not so Latin-styled danced," described certified instructor Darla Kelley. "It's 60 percent dance, 40 percent fitness moves I have people from age 14 to 75 taking this class. There's no judgement, just encouragement."The kickboxing class, led by mixed martial artist and personal trainer Kyle Booth, is a low-impact cardio class that aims to help target attendees core strength and agility. As with all Tim Dorsey Fitness classes, anyone can drop in and participate at a rate of $5 per class.It came as no surprise to anyone when Tim Dorsey Fitness again was named the "Best Fitness Center" at the Best of Funcoast Awards."Last year I was surprised we won because we were up against a big gym like Planet Fitness and their customer base is so huge," Dorsey said. "But the people who come to my gym are dedicated to the gym.
