Papa John's, Verizon splitting up on Perkins Ave.

PERKINS TWP — Stemming from Flowerama Sandusky's closure, a pizza place believes it can make more cheese in a different location. Developing in a domino-like fashion, a couple of area businesses plan on continuing operations but in different areas on Perkins Avenue. Perkins Township urban planner Melanie Murray filled in some blanks on what's happening: • The new Firelands Sandusky Health Care Center project, at 2520 Columbus Ave. by Kroger, is developing on land once home to a Drug Mart, an investment totaling between $20 million and $25 million. • The structure once housing both Papa John's Pizza and Verizon, at Columbus and Perkins avenues, will be removed to open up this space and provide a larger parking area for Firelands. • Due to this planned demolition work, the Verizon store recently relocated to the nearby Perkins Plaza, 420 E. Perkins Ave., next to Dollar General. The company invested about $85,000 in new-store renovations. • Papa John's will relocate down the street, 710 W. Perkins Ave., into the former Flowerama. It's not yet known what this investment could be. "We have not yet received demolition permits for the former Verizon/Papa John's store at 420 Perkins Ave. or for construction on the Flowerama building," Murray said.
