Woman charged in infant's death

Update Brant and a man were both indicted for the infant's death. Read the update here. Original post YORK TWP. — A York Township woman was arrested Monday in connection to the death of an infant. Kiersten Brant, 20, faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony, and child endangering, a third-degree felony, according to Sandusky County Jail records. The death occurred at a home on County Road 191, west of Bellevue, on Oct. 6, according to a Sandusky County sheriff's report. Police and EMTs arrived at the home after people inside found the 2-month-old not breathing. The child was laying in bed with Brant and a man and was located underneath the bed's covers, according to the report. EMTs tried to resuscitate the child, who was taken to a hospital but did not survive, the report states. The day after the infant died, county children services workers had both Brant and the man take drug tests, which both allegedly came back positive for methamphetamine, according to the report. The man allegedly told a detective they had smoked meth after the child's death. Brant allegedly told a detective she and the man used meth the day before the infant's death, the report states. The Lucas County coroner's office did an autopsy on the child and, according to the police report, ruled the cause of death as "sudden unexpected infant death while co-sleeping." Brant is being held in the Sandusky County Jail on a $100,000 bond. It's not known when Brant will appear in court. Jail records state the case is in Sandusky County's Court of Common Pleas, but the case does not appear in an online search of the court's records. It's also not clear if anyone else has been or will be charged in relation to the infant's death.
