Cedar Point to have housing age limit

SANDUSKY — Cedar Point says it's instituting a new age limit for its employee housing. Starting with this coming season, employees aged 30 and older will not be allowed to live in employee housing. Park spokesman Tony Clark said housing will only be for employees aged 18-29. "With many of the park's winter operations on pause due to COVID-19, the opportunity arose to give our housing program a thorough review," Clark said. "As a result, the housing eligibility age was changed to accommodate increased housing availability for the many college students who join us to work each summer." Employee housing has been closed since the fall and will reopen for the upcoming season; the park reopens May 14. One Cedar Point employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described a personal experience with the new policy. "They said, 'Based on your age, you don't qualify for housing,'" the person said. "Now hundreds of park employees have to go find other housing at a much higher rate or can't work at Cedar Point." Another anonymous individual emailed the Register about the policy change. "What about the employees 30 and up? And there are many," the person wrote. "Where are they supposed to live? Is this policy even legal?" Clark said the park is confident the new policy is not in violation of any anti-discrimination laws. "We welcome anyone to apply to work at the park," he said. Clark added that the park is working with health experts to determine proper health and safety measures amid the pandemic at the park's employee housing.
