GOP group wants Jordan out

He might be the darling of Fox News and anchor Maria Bartiroma's favorite guest, but U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan faces a political backlash from a Republican organization calling for the resignations of a dozen GOP lawmakers, including his. Billboard in Lima featuring U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan Provided/RAP The Republican Accountability Project (RAP), a group formed by critics of former President Donald Trump, recently launched a $1 million billboard campaign across the country calling for several congressional Republicans to resign. The list includes House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Greene faces her own kind of backlash after supporting social media posts calling for Democratic leaders — including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others to be assassinated. She's also supported calls for former President Barack Obama to be lynched and has said the school massacres in Parkland, Florida, and at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut didn't happen. Greene, a QAnon follower and far-right gun rights advocate, claimed the school massacres were staged events performed by actors who are anti-gun proponents. Jordan was Green's single biggest campaign donor last year, providing her $75,000 through his Freedom Fund PAC, according to opensecrets.org. Other Republicans targeted by RAP also donated to her campaign. In Lima, a digital billboard calling for Jordan's resignation is prominently displayed at Cable and Elida Roads. RAP says that billboard and others target GOP lawmakers who acted irresponsibly after the 2020 election. According to the project, "all of the lawmakers targeted by the billboards voted against certifying Joe Biden's election victory just hours after a pro-Trump mob stormed and ransacked the Capitol." "On Jan. 6, 2021, the United States Capitol was attacked by radical Trump supporters who were attempting to overturn a fair election. The attackers were directly incited by Trump and the overwhelming majority of Republicans in Congress who had been falsely claiming, for months — and in the immediate moments before the attack — that the election had been stolen from Trump," reads a statement at RAP's website, accountability.gop. The project said it will continue to work to unseat these lawmakers. Jordan has remained a stalwart Trump defender in TV appearances on Fox News. He won't answer questions about whether he or members of his staff helped organizers of the attempted coup, or provided reconnaissance tours of the Capitol prior to Jan. 6 to leaders of the racist groups that staged the violent attack. The groups involved allegedly targeted then Vice President Mike Pence and lawmakers for assassination. Five people, including a Capitol police officer, were killed in the terrorist attack. In one of his last Tweets before being banned from the platform, Trump posted a video in which he told the terrorists he loved them.
