Sandusky man arrested in alleged attack on mother of his child

SANDUSKY — Police on Monday arrested a city resident accused of strangling and punching the mother of his child. The woman, who had visible injuries when she reported the incident about a day later, was treated at Firelands Regional Medical Center.The woman told an officer that she was visiting Leonard V. Jones, 31, late Saturday night, according to a Sandusky police report. She said Jones, who was drinking alcohol, "randomly" became upset with her. When she moved upstairs to avoid waking up their child, she told the officer, Jones followed her. Then he began strangling her and punching her repeatedly in on the left side of her face.The woman told the officer she may have passed out during the assault, as she said she there is a period in which she does not remember what happened.When she was able to leave the residence, she went to the hospital. She reported the incident to the police on Monday. Police learned Jones had two prior misdemeanor assault convictions and one prior domestic violence conviction in Sandusky Municipal Court, according to the report. That increased a domestic violence charge to a third-degree felony.Jones is also being charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He remained in custody as of Tuesday evening.
