Jeffries jumps back into business

SANDUSKY — A champion of Sandusky's car wash scene faced a haymaker-style knockout punch. "I almost threw in the towel," said Manny Jeffries, who owns Manny's 100% Hand Car Wash, a repeat Register's Readers Choice Awards winner. "It was looking bad in the 10th round," said Jeffries, who's a boxing fan. "But I got up. I had to. We're taking this all the way to the 12th and final round." Like many other businesses — across the state and nationwide — Jeffries' company experienced a crushing blow brought on by the pandemic. Jeffries needed to relocate from his previous location, on Hayes Avenue (Ohio 4) beside Foster Chevrolet Cadillac, into a smaller operation. He moved the business to 1513 Sycamore Line, Unit 1, a building, across from Sandusky Plaza once home to Sandusky Electric. The new location is a good fit. For starters, it's less overhead. And he can continue offering the same services — car washes, details and disinfecting add-ons — to keep drivers and occupants safe. "I am looking to rebound here," Jeffries said. "This whole thing has taught me a lesson: Bigger isn't always better. It also taught me, even though your business might be doing good, you still have to think about the future and all of the 'what ifs' and other uncertainties."
