Bob Russ gravely ill

CLEVELAND — Register columnist Bob Russ was transferred from a care facility to the Canton hospital on Thursday, where he hopes he will be able to get the care he needs to recover. "I'm fighting for my life," said Russ. The center where he was before being transferred was short-staffed, he said, likely because of the pandemic, causing him to fear he wouldn't get the dialysis he needs or other proper care. "At the Clinic I should be able to get dialysis," he said. "I'm hoping to recover. I want to see my kids again." Russ has been battling a variety of illnesses for years, and he's been near death before and recovered. He's been writing "Life Matters," a weekly column for the Register Weekender for more than a dozen years. He's a legendary Ohio journalist, having been a reporter and editor at the Register and later a longtime editor at the Canton Repository. He's also a wildlife and outdoors columnist.
