Woman indicted for allegedly falsifying statements

PORT CLINTON — Oak Harbor resident Elizabeth Tarbuskovich was indicted for allegedly providing false information to police. Tarbuskovich was charged with felony counts of perjury and obstructing justice, along with two misdemeanor counts of falsification, according to the Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office. Last July, Tarbuskovich told Port Clinton police she was beaten and held against her will by her boyfriend, Bryant Boyd. Boyd was arrested and incarcerated in Ottawa County's jail, according to the police report."I do have to admit my conscience has been eating away at me because I falsely accused Bryant Boyd because my feelings were hurt," Tarbuskovich said in a sworn letter dated Sept. 2, 2016. "I completely lost my mind upon finding out he was seeing another woman while we were together. It crushed me."Despite Tarbuskovich's letter, Boyd's case continued in Ottawa County Common Pleas Court. He was scheduled for sentencing this month when newly elected county prosecutor James VanEerten discovered Tarbuskovich's letter. "Given the full recantation, and claims that Tarbuskovich made it all up, I couldn't pursue this case (against Boyd) in good faith," VanEerten previously told the Register. "We filed a motion to dismiss in the interest of justice."Boyd's case was dismissed soon after. Former Ottawa County prosecutor Mark Mulligan said he received Tarbuskovich's letter but chose not to use it. "When I received Tarbuskovich's letter, I thought it was a product of coercion rather than a factual statement," Mulligan said. A warrant was issued for Tarbuskovich following Wednesday's indictment, according to a news release.
