Sandusky Elks Students of the Month

SANDUSKY — Character. Leadership. Service. Citizenship. Scholastic achievement. These are the qualities that mark a Sandusky Elks Student of the Month, and 10 area high school seniors have attained this recognition for February 2017:Joseph Harkelroad, the son of Joe and Amanda Harkelroad, attends Huron High School. He is a member of National Honor Society and captain of both the basketball and track and field teams, as well as being a youth group leader and participating in the Koinonia Retreat at his church. Erin Blankenship, the daughter of Joellen Blankenship and George Blankenship, attends Huron High School. She is a member of Ohio Model United Nations, Science Club and the volleyball team, and is a past member of a nationally-ranked Junior Olympic volleyball team. Isaiah Prentice is the son of Lynsi and Willis Prentice. He attends St. Mary Central Catholic High School, where he is a member of the football team, the baseball team and was named to the Homecoming Court. Rachele Windau, the daughter of Tad and Teresa Windau, attends St. Mary Central Catholic High School. She is a member of National Art Honor Society, Teen Leadership Corps, International Club and Key Club. She is captain of the varsity basketball and volleyball teams, vice president of her 4-H Club, an ER volunteer at Firelands Regional Medical Center and an equestrian. Courtney Wadsworth, a student at Margaretta High School, is the daughter of Kevin and Tammie Wadsworth. She is part of the Dinner Theatre choir, Future Farmers of America and has participated in Relay for Life and Big Brothers Big Sisters as part of Leadership Class. Margaretta High School student Kaleb Carpenter is on the baseball, football and powerlifting teams, a member of National Honor Society and Leadership Class, FFA and Students Against Destructive Decisions. His volunteer activities include American Red Cross blood drives and Clothe-A-Child. He is the son of Timothy and Shelly Carpenter. Ciera Rawson is the daughter of Ken and Jen Rawson and attends Perkins High School. She is part of Aim for Excellence, Glamour Gals, National Honor Society and student council. She is vice president of Drama Club and has played lead roles with that organization as well as in Perkins High School musicals.Justin Branum, a Perkins High School student, is the son of Don and Sheri Branum. He is the captain and a four-year member of the cross country team, president of Aim for Excellence, student council treasurer, senior class historian, executive officer for National Honor Society, a student aide and a member of the Ohio Teen Ambassador Board. Branum is also a member of the swimming and track teams, National Math Honor Society, Mock Trial and Academic Challenge. Samantha Schmiedl, the daughter of Wendy Schmiedl and Mark Schmiedl, attends Sandusky High School. She is varsity cheer captain and participates in A Capella Choir, National Honor Society and student council, as well as being a past member of Swan Club and the softball team. Melanie Prelipp is the daughter of Christina and Robert Fisher. She attends Sandusky High School, where she is a member of student council, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and Business Professionals of America. She has also volunteered as a receptionist's assistant at Firelands Regional Medical Center and is a past class officer.
