Intoxicated bicyclist found with several knives during traffic stop

MARGARETTA TWP — An intoxicated Sandusky man riding his bicycle on a country road Friday evening was allegedly found with seven knives and claimed he didn't know he had an active warrant.The Erie County Sheriff's Office arrested Jeffrey L. May, 52, 800 block W. Osborne St., and charged him with disorderly conduct while intoxicated, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and controlled substance, and warrant.Just before 11:30 p.m. Friday, a deputy patrolling the 4000 block of Homegardner Road saw May riding a bicycle without any functioning lights and wearing dark clothing. When the deputy passed May, he briefly turned off a flashing light and turned it back on, the report stated.In a traffic stop, the deputy noticed May smelled like alcohol and marijuana and had an active warrant through Sandusky County for violating probation. May denied knowing about the warrant when questioned and kept putting his hands in his pockets and his waistband.Once May's arms were restrained, the deputy found May to have two pocket knives, two knives on his waistband, another knife in his wallet and a metal rod with a sharp end in his left front pocket.May admitted to having marijuana in his book bag and was found with a glass pipe and a small amount of marijuana in a plastic bag. The deputy also found two more knives while searching May's book bag, with May claiming he carried the knives for personal protection, the report stated.May was issued minor misdemeanor summons and turned over to the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office.
