Hall of Fame Barbershop inducted into Sandusky's business community

SANDUSKY — There are a few reasons why people position John Hall several cuts above the average barber.Just ask one of his most loyal customers, Sandusky resident Kurtis Poole, who lists them off without any hesitation."Consistency, timing, loyalty, friendship," said Poole, who received a fade and trims to his man bun and "big boy beard" from Hall on Thursday."He cuts it how I need it every time," Poole said when Hall finished lining him up inside the barber's newest business.John Hall, above, smiles after lining up one of his most loyal customers, Kurtis Poole, inside Hall's new business, Hall of Fame Barbershop, within the Sandusky Plaza on Cleveland Road (U.S. 6). Hall previously cut hair for six years at Benny B's Barbershop, also in Sandusky.Earlier this month, Hall opened Hall of Fame Barbershop in the Sandusky Plaza on Cleveland Road (U.S. 6). The double meaning plays off Hall's last name and where he began a passion for styling hair."There was a barbershop that I liked when I lived in Miami. It was called Hall of Fame," Hall said. "When I got the opportunity, I wanted to use this name. This really is my dream barbershop."For the past six years, Hall worked out of Benny B's Barbershop, also in Sandusky, honing his craft. Hall still offers the same services — haircuts, shaves, coloring, designs and more — at his new place.The new location, however, offers much more space for people to socialize over free soda, video games and traditional barbershop chatter."When it comes to being a barber, and all my clients know this about me, it's all about relationships," Hall said. "I try to make sure that you know I care about you. To me, it's not about the money. I built this whole shop basically because I have an overload of clientele, and I want to make sure they have a nice, comfy place to chill. You never know: Two guys playing 'Fortnite' might become best friends at the barbershop."Several people came to the Hall of Fame Barbershop's opening day on Saturday, May 11. The shop, run by local barber John Hall, is located within the Sandusky Plaza on Cleveland Road (U.S. 6). Hall even trademarks his own cuts with the label "#sossgang"(pronounced sauce-gang). He often pairs the phrase when posting pictures of his haircuts on Instagram."It's my brand. It's my movement," Hall said. "It means I always try to be extra when I do a haircut. I try to go to the extra mile so you look good and exclusive. It also means I'm always thinking about you. With the '#sossgang,' you are getting the full package."Consider city resident Sheryl Seavers, another one of Hall's longtime customers, as a charter member of the group."John gets me right every time," she said. "I never have a problem, and he's good."Hall also wants his new business to serve as an educational institution, of sorts, where other barbers can get their starts."I want to bring in new barbers and teach them what I know and make them into really good barbers," Hall said. "I'm all about the people of Sandusky and want to give back. That will be my gift to the city.
