Fremont Fishing and Outdoor Festival returns Saturday

FREMONT — The Fremont Fishing and Outdoor Festival is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in downtown Fremont.The free event will include an interactive bird experience with popsicle stick bird feeders, archery, horse rides, animal displays, K-9 demonstrations and more.Not only will there be a fishing tournament in the Sandusky River, but there will also be a 2,500-gallon fish tank with Pro Bass Fishermen giving free fishing and casting demonstrations and seminars. It's the perfect time to go fishing in the Sandusky River because each spring a large portion of Lake Erie's walleye population moves to the Sandusky River to spawn. Walleye spawning normally brings hundreds of thousands of fish.Although the event is anchored by fishing, there will also be food, beverages and entertainment.The festival has a major emphasis on outdoor recreation.The American Sport Fishing Association estimates Ohio's sport fishing industry generates over $1 billion annually.Reach reporter Alyssa Wieber at wieber@sanduskyregister.com.
