Murder defendant enters not guilty plea

SANDUSKY — Christine Gilbert on Friday pleaded not guilty in the weekend stabbing death of Jamie Wilburn.Wilburn, 44, died on Saturday morning after suffering a stab wound in Gilbert's Perkins Township mobile home. Gilbert, 35, is being held in the Erie County jail on a first-degree murder charge.Gilbert appeared in Sandusky Municipal Court via video on Monday. Because she did not have an attorney to represent her on the murder charge, Judge Erich O'Brien did not ask her to enter a plea.A plea hearing slated for Thursday morning was continued until Friday so the local public defender's office could assign an attorney to her case.Gilbert is being represented by Norwalk attorney Russ Leffler, according to the clerk's office.While felony cases are handled through the Erie County Court of Common Pleas, arraignments generally take place in municipal courts.Christine Gilbert is arraigned at the Sandusky Municipal Court via video on Monday, January 30, 2017.
