PREP ROUNDUP: Huron's Sherer wins Div. II district cross country title

GALION — Huron's Salvador Sherer completed the course at Amann's Park in 16:31 to win a Division II boys district cross country championship Saturday. The Tigers finished second in the boys team competition, which, along with Perkins' fourth-place finish, was good enough to qualify for next week's regional meet. Norwalk's Hale, Moser advance FINDLAY — Norwalk's Wyatt Hale and Kyle Moser advanced to next week's Divisions I and II regional championships at Tiffin following their performances at the Findlay Owens Community College district meet. Hale placed 12th in 17:12 in the D-I boys race to finish among the top 16 individual qualifying runners for next weekend's 3 p.m. race. In the D-II girls race, Moser was 13th in 22:01 to also advance. Sandusky senior David Graves finished 16th in his race, finishing in 17:31. Freshman Makayla Clark was the top finisher among the Blue Streak girls, taking 34th in 22:28. GIRLS SOCCER Port Clinton 3, Napoleon 0 PORT CLINTON -- Port Clinton captured its first sectional championship by beating Napoleon 3-0 in the Division II Northwest 3 district. Gladys Wiechman scored a hat trick to lead the Redskins, and Paeja Leow and Gracie Rohrer added assists. Goalie Olivia Perry made 11 saves and recorded her seventh shutout this season. Port Clinton, the No. 4 seed, will play top-seeded Oak Harbor at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in a district semifinal at Millbury Lake. The Rockets shut out Tiffin Columbian 4-0 in another sectional final. Vermilion 5, Norwalk 4 (OT) NORWALK -- Mikayla Lindo scored a goal in overtime to lift Vermilion to a 5-4 comeback win over Norwalk in a Division II sectional championship match on Saturday. Lindo's goal was the 32nd of her career, which set a school record. Sarah Bartlome had 31 goals in her high school career. Nyah Daniels scored goals for the fifth-seeded Truckers (13-3-1), who led 4-2 when Vermilion's Livia Penton scored on a free kick. Lindo scored on a penalty kick to tie the match. Vermilion (11-5-1), the No. 6 seed, will play top-seeded Mansfield Madison at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a district semifinal in Lexington. Ontario 10, Perkins 0 ONTARIO -- The seventh-seeded Pirates fell 10-0 in a sectional final to second-seeded Ontario. Perkins finished the season with a 9-8 record.
