Kroger reopens

PERKINS TWP. — The Kroger Marketplace in Sandusky reopened today after a fire forced the popular grocery store to close last week. The grocery store at Perkins and Columbus avenues opened its doors to shoppers at 9 a.m. "The entire store will be open," said Amy McCormick, a spokesperson for the Cincinnati-based store chain. "There will be a few areas we are still working to fill with product and appreciate customers' patience." The grocery store closed after Shane Andrews, 23, allegedly ignited a fire inside on Thursday, which caused about $1 million in damages, including the loss of product. Shoppers seemed impressed with the store's quick reopening after the fire. "They did a really awesome job with so little time," Tina Meade, of Norwalk said. "I couldn't even tell. It looked brand new." Meade was one of several shoppers who came to the newly reopened store Wednesday. Most said they were glad to have Kroger back because it's their go-to destination to buy groceries. Andrews, meanwhile, appeared Monday in the Sandusky Municipal Court for an arraignment on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated arson. Court records show he has a plea hearing Thursday, and the court is awaiting a mental health evaluation.
