Shooting victim clings to life

SANDUSKY — As of late Sunday, a man remains in "very critical condition" after sustaining a gunshot wound earlier on in the day, local police commanders said. Just after 12:30 a.m., Sandusky police officers responded to an area near the intersection of Hancock and Neil streets. Officers located one victim, identified as 29-year-old Bernasto Hardin, inside a vehicle that had been shot. Paramedics took Hardin to Firelands Regional Medical Center. A medical helicopter later transported him to a Cleveland-area hospital, where, as of Sunday night, he's on "life support," Sandusky police Chief John Orzech said. Three other victims — a 30-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man and a 22-year old man — also suffered gunshot wounds. Each person, all admitted to and later released from Firelands, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Sandusky police detective Kevin Youskievicz said. Just after 3 p.m. Sunday, officers issued a warrant for Maleek Aaron for his alleged involvement in the shooting. It's not known if he acted alone. "He should be considered armed and dangerous and a threat to the public," according to a post on Sandusky police's social media page. "Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact their local law enforcement agencies. Anyone harboring or assisting him in any way will be prosecuted." People can anonymously provide tips by calling 419-627-5863. "A motive for the shooting hasn't been established at this time," a news release states. "There are multiple shell casings of different calibers at the scene." In the meantime, Sandusky police and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation is assisting with processing the crime scene and following up on any leads.
