Updated: Motorcyclist killed on Perkins Avenue

Full update, 7 p.m. PERKINS TWP. — A motorcyclist was killed on Perkins Avenue Friday when a van crashed into him. The incident occurred at 12:41 p.m. on East Perkins Avenue near East Bayview Lane, according to a news release. A 2004 Honda motorcycle, operated by David Prinkey, 67, of Wayland, Ohio, was driving west. A 2006 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Brittany Laubacher, 31, of Norwalk, was driving east. The van crossed the center line into the oncoming lane and struck the motorcycle, the release states. Prinkey was killed in the crash; Laubacher was uninjured. Troopers do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, which remains under investigation, according to the release. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Perkins police, the Perkins Fire Department, Perkins Township EMS, Interstate Towing and Groff Funeral Home. Original post, 4:13 p.m. PERKINS TWP. — A motorcyclist is dead after being hit by a van on East Perkins Avenue Friday afternoon. The crash occurred just after noon near East Bayview Lane. Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Caess said a van, which drove east, went left of the center line and struck a motorcyclist who traveled west. It's not known what caused the van driver to go into the oncoming lane, Caess said. Other details, including the identity of the victim, has not been released.
