Marina accident cause to be released

PUT-IN-BAY — The cause of an electric current that killed a 19 year-old man at Miller Marina will be released Wednesday, according to Ohio Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Eric Heis.Dublin resident Evan T. Currie was pronounced dead soon after the incident occurred Friday evening. ODNR Division of Parks & Watercraft has been investigating, taking possession of the involved boat and associated equipment.Soon after, an electrician performed a reenactment of the incident to inspect the power outlets on the dock. All power outlets on the dock were found to be in proper order and functioning normally, a press release from the marina stated.At about 6:30 p.m. Friday, Currie and his family docked their boat at Miller Marina. After securing the boat to the dock, they plugged the shore power to the boat. But soon after, the family's dog fell in the water and began to struggle, the report stated.The victim's father, Jeffrey Currie, jumped in and struggled as well, slipping below the water's surface. Currie and his brother jumped in to assist the dog and their father, but also struggled.Within minutes, the victim's mother heard bystanders shout to unplug the shore power. When she did, the electrical current in the water stopped and everyone got back on the boat except for Currie, who was "unresponsive and convulsing," the report said.Soon, CPR was performed on Currie and the family transported him to the mainland in Port Clinton, but treatment was unsuccessful."The entire staff at Miller Marina and the Market family is deeply saddened by the tragic death of a guest at our marina on June 16.
