MacArthur Park is named | Sandusky Register 75 years ago, 1942: "MacArthur Park" was the name chosen for the U.S. Housing project under construction at the old fairgrounds. Mrs. Bernice Jameson, Ogontz-st., chose the winning name in a contest sponsored by the Register-Star-News. She would receive a $25 U.S. War savings bond. She said Gen. Douglas MacArthur was the hero of the hour, so it seemed appropriate to name the site after him.
