Many apply to be Huron's next city manager

HURON — The city of Huron has no shortage of applicants to be its next city manager. The city council tasked a search committee to replace former city manager Andy White, who left Huron after 14 successful years. More than 20 qualified candidates applied, including several people familiar to the area. Among them: • Matt Lasko — The city of Sandusky's current chief development officer. He has master's degrees in social administration and urban planning, design and development. • Brandon Gardner — A Huron High School graduate with a master's degree in criminal justice, who currently serves as the assistant director of Ohio Homeland Security. • Rob Duncan — The former mayor of Norwalk who lost his re-election campaign last year. • Jeffrey Hayes — A Norwalk resident, with a master's degree in management, who was the vice president of system operations at Fisher-Titus Medical Center. • Nicholas Kane — A Castalia native and Army officer who currently works as a supervisor at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The committee — comprised of Mayor Sam Artino, councilman Trey Hardy, councilman Joe Dike, Stephanie Walls, Dave Clark and Scott Slocum — will recommend an applicant to the council. The allotted salary for the next city manager is between $95,000 and $140,000 depending on the applicant's qualifications. Mike Spafford, the assistant city manager under White and current interim city manager, wasn't among the applications released by the council. Spafford couldn't be reached for comment. The position also attracted applicants from across Ohio and the rest of the country. Other applicants include: • Douglas Adkins — An attorney who is currently suing the city of Middletown, Ohio, for wrongful termination after the city council fired him from the city manager position after five years. • Ambrus Price, Jr. — A college professor in Louisiana with a master's degree in public administration and a doctorate in political science. • William Neville — A support analyst at Cerner in Missouri and a former political strategy consultant in Kansas City. • Mitch Michalec — The former assistant finance director of Cleveland Heights with a Juris doctorate and a master's in business administration. • Tyler Thompson — The village administrator of Georgetown, Ohio, holds a master's degree in public administration. • Christopher Sandrolini — He holds a master's degree in international economics and currently serves as the foreign policy advisor to the commander of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command. • Kyle Wilson — The Willard resident is the former logistics coordinator for Pam Transport and the customer service manager at Walmart. • Jacob Lucius — The district manager of National Machinery in Tiffin, Ohio. • Robert Zienkowski — The former manager of Radnor Township in Pennsylvania who resigned this year on good terms. • Jennifer Pae — She has a master's degree in public administration and was the finance director for Lakewood, Ohio, before resigning. • Steven Wheeler — The safety service director for Orrville, Ohio, holds a master's degree in public administration. • Robert Ratliff — An attorney serves as the law director for Bucyrus, Ohio. • Anthony Zampedro — The assistant city manager for Mentor, Ohio, holds a master's degree in public administration and Juris doctorate. • Mitsuko Ramos — Owner of a government relations company in Texas and a former employee of the city of San Antonio. • Jonathan Laule — He has a master's in public administration and currently works for the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. • Richard Downey — The village administrator for Kronenwetter, Wisconsin, with a master's degree in public administration.
