Huron Schools installs drinking water stations

HURON — Staying hydrated just became easier for Huron Schools students. Beginning the upcoming school year, new water filling stations will be at all Huron Schools buildings. Each station will have sensors so students can fill their water bottles hands-free.Superintendent Dennis Muratori said Huron Schools wanted students to have better access to water. "This is especially important when kids are physically active and during hot weather months that often occur during late summer and spring," he said. Each water station costs between $1,000 to $3,000 per building, Muratori said. To pay for the project, the district will use a $250 grant from the Erie County Community Foundation, wellness dollars from its health insurance consortium and permanent improvement money for facilities. A school district's permanent improvement fund can only be used for repairing buses, maintaining facilities, replacing textbooks and upgrading technology.
