CLYDE — New owners offer a twist on Clyde's coolest ice cream shop.Lucas and Lauren Preston-Colvin recently purchased LuLu's Twistee Treat at West McPherson Highway and Nelson Street. Lucas, who graduated from Clyde High School in 2015, is thrilled to be able to own an iconic business close to home."It's awesome getting to own a business in your hometown," Lucas said. "It doesn't feel like going to work, it feels like you're going to see friends and family."The husband and wife team always wanted to own a business, especially Lauren, a 2015 Fremont Ross graduate. For her, entrepreneurship is a family tradition."Everyone in her family on both sides owns or has owned their own business at some point so, it's kind of in her blood," Lucas said.Earlier this year, they got a call from their accountant telling them the Twistee Treat ice cream shop was up for sale and decided it was perfect for them with their shared experience.The couple believe they have what it takes to make the business successful. Lucas studied business administration with an emphasis on marketing and tourism at the Ohio Business College and Lauren has years of experience managing another local ice cream shop.They've made several changes to revitalize the business, which first opened in 1992, including changing the name to LuLu's Twistee Treat, adding ice cream alternatives for people with dietary restrictions and increasing the months of operations to March through November.Some of the changes were made at the suggestion of customers. For example, after people said they wanted a place to store bicycles, they went out to get a bicycle rack."We want to make people happy and love listening to our customers," Lucas said. "When we first opened people were hesitant, but we've built up a good reputation and there's a lot of people who've come and keep coming back.
