Trump coming to Clyde

CLYDE — President Donald Trump will visit Clyde's Whirlpool washing machine plant on Thursday. Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton told the Register that Trump will tour the factory. He will give remarks "on his administration's efforts to revitalize and support America's manufacturing sector," the White House stated. The Secret Service reached out to the sheriff's office Friday. "Any time the president goes somewhere, they ask local police with assistance for traffic control and other logistics," Hilton said. Hilton, who couldn't disclose any details until Monday, was excited at the prospect of Trump's visit. "It's not very often you have the opportunity to meet a sitting president," he said. Thursday's visit marks the president's first trip to Ohio since the coronavirus pandemic started. Trump is also scheduled to appear at a campaign fundraiser in Cleveland on Thursday. Whirlpool's Clyde plant is the largest washing machine plant in the world with more than 3,000 employees. In 2018, the Trump administration imposed tariffs on imported washing machines to combat unfair trade practices. A precise time when the president will arrive has not been determined.
