4 people facing charges after fights at fairgrounds

FREMONT — Two adults and two juveniles were charged after two separate fights shut down the Sandusky County Fair Saturday evening. Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton said shortly after 10 p.m., deputies at the fairgrounds responded to two disputes — one between family members in front of the sheriff's office tent and another allegedly involving 200 juveniles near a fair entrance — that happened at about the same time."It was so out of control that the fair board decided to shut (the fair) down," Hilton said. "We backed them up on that decision."Hilton said he wasn't aware of any weapons being used in either dispute. "We're still trying to sort out what happened," Hilton said.The Sandusky County Fair opened at 9 a.m. Sunday for its last day, with deputies patrolling inside the fairgrounds and Fremont police patrolling outside of the grounds.After the incidents occurred, some area residents said on social media they believed the fair shut down due to an active shooter situation or a bomb threat, but Hilton said that was "absolutely not" true.
