'Hello Yellow'

SANDUSKY — When Marsha Carrington asked 19 artists if they'd participate in her next show, each agreed, tickled pink that she asked. After a six-month hiatus, due to COVID-19-related restrictions, such as social distancing guidelines, Carrington plans to host her next show, titled "Hello Yellow" at her downtown Sandusky art gallery. The exhibit premieres Friday. Carrington provided some additional color so people know what to expect: Overcoming obstacles Carrington Arts is finally opening a new show. The gallery closed its first show of the 2020 season after three weeks into a six-week show, and the following two scheduled shows were also canceled due to COVID-19. Previewing the show I'm excited to bring this group show of 19 artists to downtown Sandusky this summer. The exhibit features the artwork of Diane Britt, MP Marion, Barbara Nell Morejon, James Peake, Darlene Delbecq, Debra Delbecq, Charlotte Lees, Jeff Yost, Jordan Sternberg, Susan Riha Parsley, David Sapp. Eric Jaworowski, Betz Johnson Richards, Thorn-Reed, Racine Holly, Delores Oleksa, PJ Halliwill, Donna Coleman and Marsha Gray Carrington, the owner of the gallery. Mediums include painting, drawing, photography, textiles, wood, mixed media, metal, digital art, ceramics, assemblage, origami, poetry and conceptual art. This will be Carrington Arts' 22nd show since opening in October of 2015. Returning to the color theme Each year, I work on new themes for group shows for the gallery and leave the interpretation up to the invited artists. (For "Hello Yellow"), I thought it would be fun to explore another color. I had a show titled "Blue" my second season, and it was a really fun and dynamic show. Yellow seemed like a challenging color to explore. Even though the theme is up for artist interpretation, I always give ideas for inspiration. Some of those ideas included yellow as a primary color of the work or just having a spot of yellow that the viewer may be drawn to in the art. It also could be something in nature that is generally yellow and making it another color altogether. The theme could be explored as a metaphor as well. Like always, with group shows at Carrington Arts, there is an extensive variety of work and interesting interpretations of the theme." Taking precautions The show runs Friday to Sept. 18, 2020, with an opening reception on Friday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. For the safety of the public during COVID 19, reservations are required for 15-minute time periods. There can only be 10 guests in the gallery at one time. Masks and social distancing are required. Joining in with this event will be Soda Pops with ice cream tastings and Sandusky Wine Merchant with a taste of wine. Reservations for the gallery can be made by calling 419-621-7617. This may not be the usual crowded opening reception that Carrington Arts events tend to be, but great art and fresh creative vision can still be experienced at the gallery while keeping people safe.
