Gary C. Castle Sr.

SANDUSKY — Gary C. Castle Sr., 74, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Sunday morning, July 26, 2020, at Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born on Oct. 14, 1945, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to the late Edgar A. and Nova Anna (Salyer) Castle. Gary retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 30 years of service. His favorite summer activities were fishing and gardening. Gary was known on the water as Cherokee and he always knew the secret spots where all the fish were biting. His garden was his pride and joy and was fertilized by his fish which produced the best tasting tomatoes. Gary also enjoyed hunting with his family and getting the biggest Buck. In his younger years, he was passionate about playing baseball and softball. Gary absolutely loved spending time with his two grandchildren and loved to get them all riled up and being silly with him. Nothing made Gary happier than taking all of his "boys" out on the water to catch the "big walleye." Gary is survived by two sons, Gary (Jules) Castle Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brad (Bridget) Castle of Sandusky; two grandsons, Logan and Brayden Castle; sister, Darnell and four brothers, Jerry, Roger, James "Jim" and Edgar "Eddie." In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Linda in 2018 after 53 years of marriage; five sisters, Rosetta, Jeanett, Doris, Shirley, and Alice and one brother, Paul. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Chaplain Mel Sayler will officiate.
