Wood Carver Show returning to Merry-Go-Round Museum

SANDUSKY — The Wood Carver Show, an annual tradition and inexpensive family event, will return to the Merry-Go-Round Museum.This year's Wood Carver Show will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the museum, 301 Jackson St., Sandusky.The museum normally charges admission, $6 for adults, with one carousel ride included.But for the Wood Carver Show, the museum will provide free admission for everyone, with carousel rides costing only $1 a ride."The museum's exhibit this year focuses on the artistry needed to create carousel animals," museum executive director Kurri Lewis said. "But the woodcarvers at the show offer a distinctly different viewpoint through their own works."About 20 woodcarvers are expected to show up, including carvers who work at the museum, carvers from a Bellevue club and a carver from Michigan, and they'll show off a wide variety of products, including decoy ducks for hunters, Santa Claus figures and wooden toys."What you'll see from these carvers is a wide range of things," Lewis said.The show has been around for more than 20 years, Lewis said."I think we started doing these shortly after we first opened in 1990," he said.Visitors will be able to look at the museum's latest exhibit, "Into the Wild!," focusing the carousel animals carved to decorate the rides in amusement parks.Visitors admire a wood carver's work at a past Wood Carver Show at the Merry-Go-Round Museum.
