Cedar Point employees test positive for COVID-19

SANDUSKY — Cedar Point confirmed three of its employees tested positive for COVID-19. When the park opened its gates a week ago for a truncated 150th season, it did so with new precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, including daily health screenings for employees. Spokesman Tony Clark said employees who don't pass the screening are referred to health care professionals for testing at their discretion. Clark confirmed to the Register on Wednesday that three employees tested positive for the virus. "The affected employees were screened, as per usual, prior to park opening and prior to reporting to their work locations," Clark said. Out of respect for its employees' privacy, he said the park wouldn't release any further details on their status. According to Clark, the park follows all of the CDC and Erie County Health Department's guidelines for screening and contact tracing. Erie County health commissioner Pete Schade said the park was doing great at following the health guidelines. In addition to health screenings of employees and customers, the park requires face coverings, has hundreds of hand sanitizer stations, practices social distancing throughout the park and does extensive sanitization of areas. The park recently started requiring timed access passes for its most popular roller coasters — Maverick, Steel Vengeance and Millennium Force — to maintain social distancing. Last week, an employee at fellow Cedar Fair park, Kings Island, also tested positive for the virus.
