Sandusky man shot during burglary

SANDUSKY — Police are investigating a Thursday morning burglary that resulted in a home's resident being shot in the leg. The incident occurred at about 2:25 a.m. in an apartment in the 300 block of Fulton St., according to a Sandusky police report.A man who lives in the apartment said multiple people entered his home and he was shot once in the leg, the report states. The Sandusky Fire Department took the man to Firelands Regional Medical Center.The victim told police he wasn't sure how many people were in his apartment, Detective Kevin Youskievicz said."He was unsure because it happened so quick," Youskievicz said.Youskievicz said his agency is investigating the shooting. But he said much still wasn't known as of Thursday afternoon, including how many people fired weapons, what weapon or weapons were used, if anything was stolen and what the motive was.Police don't believe the suspects forced entry into the man's apartment, he said. Law enforcement also recovered evidence from the scene, but Youskievicz said he couldn't disclose what that was.Law enforcement will follow up with the victim to get more information, he said.
