Rush to Milan's new shake shop

MILAN — Rush, a new protein shake shop in Milan, wants to blend in with the community.Megan McDonald and Stacy Rogers opened the shake shop's doors in the village square, next to Key Bank, on Aug. 31. But McDonald is no stranger to the business. She previously opened Live Aloha in downtown Sandusky."When I moved out this way a couple years ago, I wanted to bring something similar to this area," McDonald said.When McDonald was looking to open the shake shop that eventually became Live Aloha, she looked in Milan but there wasn't any space available at the time.But when the Fitness Room closed in March, it opened up a space in Milan's iconic Kelley Building. McDonald and Rogers added a bar to the front to prepare drinks and a new gym floor to the back for training.The shop sells protein shakes in a variety of flavors, teas, energy supplements and more. But McDonald and Rogers want to differentiate it from other similar businesses in the area by offering training."We're not only a nutrition club, but we want to be a community hub," McDonald said. "We offer personal training, classes and more."McDonald handles the protein shake side of the business while Rogers will be in charge of the fitness classes. Rogers is a former professional boxer and kick boxer who is working to get certified as a personal trainer.Since opening Rush, the two owners said they've been welcomed by the community and people seem to be excited to have them in town."It's been really cool," Rogers said.
