Several injured in boat collision

UPDATE 3 p.m. Sunday SANDUSKY — Multiple people were taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center for minor injuries after two boats collided late Friday. Sandusky Fire Capt. Mario D'Amico said the incident happened near the Sandusky coal docks. The boats were soon moved to Sandusky Harbor Marina on Huron Street. Six people were taken to the hospital by Sandusky EMS, and Margaretta EMS took one person to the hospital for cuts and bruises, but no major injuries were reported. Their identities are unknown. A representative from the Coast Guard's Marblehead station said one boat had nine people, five children and four adults, on it, with nobody sustaining any injuries. The other boat had eight people, seven adults and one child, on it, many of whom were injured. The boats, a 25-foot Crown Line boat and a 31-foot Tiara boat, were heavily damaged. Officials from the Coast Guard and Towboat Marine/Towboat U.S. also assisted with the incident. It's unclear what caused the boats to collide, a Coast Guard representative said Sunday. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is investigating the situation.
