Salon gets new name but keeps same team

PERKINS TWP. — Despite the name change, customers can still expect quality hair care coming from familiar stylists. Lizabeth "Buffi" King now owns A'va Grace Salon, formerly known as Oliver's Hair Salon. Why A'va Grace? The name A'va Grace derives from all three of King's granddaughters: A'va, Emery Grace and Hudson Elizabeth Grace. In Hebrew, A'va means living and breathing. The two names beside one another translate to living and breathing grace. A 25-year employee at Oliver's, King took over the business, located beside Walmart in Park Place Shopping Center off Milan Road (U.S. 250), earlier this year and just before Ohio's stay-at-home order went into effect. "I had to stop business six weeks after I bought it and then was shut down for two months," King said. "It's been a challenge, but we're here and open now." Shortly after buying the business, King undertook a major remodeling initiative, freshening up her storefront's overall look. What didn't change: She brought over each stylist during this transition. Customers, no matter men or women, can also still receive similar services — haircuts, color treatments, perms, waxes and more — as they did before. "I have never been a business owner before," said King, who's cut hair for 34 years. "I really built up this store. I didn't want to leave here, and I didn't want to work anywhere else or for anyone else." A'va serves customers, no matter walk-ins or appointments, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays along with 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
