School Notes: Edison, Danbury, Old House Guild of Sandusky

MILAN In May, Power of the Pen conducted online regional competitions on May 16. At that virtual tournament, Edison Middle School eighth grader Nadia Canetlli was named regional champion and classmate Sara Gates placed 11th overall. Seventh grader Leah Gill placed eighth overall and seventh grader Alaina Keegan placed fourth overall. In addition, Edison's seventh grade team finished in fourth place and the eighth grade team placed second. In February, Edison Middle School's Power of the Pen teams competed in district competition at Tiffin Middle School. The seventh grade team placed fourth while the eight grade team finished third. Eighth grader Nadia Cantelli placed ninth overall out of 90 writers. Power of the Pen, a creative writing competition, gives students prompts and limited time to write a fictional story. Both Edison teams are advised by teacher Colleen Hansen. Aubree Steinmetz Provided photo SANDUSKY 2020 Huron High School graduate Aubree Steinmetz received a $500 scholarship from the Old House Guild of Sandusky, an organization that encourages the appreciation, preservation, and restoration of homes and structures and to promote an interest, love, and commitment through various means. Aubree has a vast interest in museum operations and had the opportunity of assisting curators at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History this past winter. She is the daughter of Brian and JoAnn Steinmetz and will attend Ohio State University in the fall. DANBURY TWP.
