Sandusky Library distributes snacks to kids

SANDUSKY – The Sandusky Library began handing out snacks to children this week. From noon to 1 p.m Monday through Friday, outside the library's main entrance, staff members distribute snack bags for children under the age of 18. The snacks are free and children need to be present to receive it. Carly Rogers, the youth services librarian, said she's been pleased with how the program has gone so far. They give out more snacks each day. "With children not being in school, this is a good way to make sure they're getting food throughout the summer," she said. "It's an easy way for them to pop over and get something to help them get through the day." Those joining the snack program should enter the library's parking lot from Columbus Avenue. People can travel in a vehicle or walk. Tuesday's snack bag included a variety of items like milk, juice, cheese, Craisins and other items. Each bag has the components of a meal because of its fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy and protein foods. If patrons stop by the library for a snack on Friday, they can also receive one for Saturday, Rogers said.
