Sandusky Library providing meals to children this summer

SANDUSKY – The Sandusky Library will be distributing free meals to children this summer. A partnership between the library and the Children's Hunger Alliance will allow the library to expand its free meal program to offer lunch during the summer, according to a press release. Meals will be provided to children under the age of 18 regardless of financial status. Each meal will be shelf-stable and will feature items from all five MyPlate food groups, including fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy and protein foods. Beginning Monday, meals will be distributed from noon to 12:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. Children must be present in order to receive meals. Patrons using a vehicle should enter the library's parking lot from Columbus Avenue beginning at 11:55 a.m. and pull up to the sidewalk at the main entrance. To follow social distancing guidelines, patrons should remain in their vehicles so a staff member can hand out meals. Patrons should leave the parking lot using the Jackson Street exit. Patrons who will be walking should enter the sidewalk from Columbus Avenue in the same direction as the vehicles. People are asked to maintain a 6-foot distance between waiting spots. Family members living in the same household can share a waiting spot. After receiving a meal, patrons should exit the area using the sidewalk toward Jackson Street. The library's partnership with the Children's Hunger Alliance provided 550 after-school snacks to community children between January 15 and March 13, the release stated.
