Local gas prices among highest in Ohio

SANDUSKY — At the moment, north-central Ohio has some of the most expensive gas prices in the state.The four-county area ranked in the upper half of Ohio's 88 counties with the highest average gas prices, according to gasbuddy.com. Here are average gas prices for the four-county area, as of Friday:• Ottawa County: $2.76 — Sixth highest in Ohio.• Huron County: $2.73 — 13th highest in Ohio• Sandusky County: $2.70 — Tied for 25th highest in Ohio.• Erie County: $2.67 — 37th highest in Ohio.But gas prices can fluctuate. For example, Erie County's average gas price dropped six cents — from $2.73 to $2.67 — between Wednesday and Friday, according to gasbuddy.com.The average price statewide as of Friday is $2.62. That's up about eight cents from the same time in September, $2.54, but a sharp 24-cent decrease from the Oct. 4, 2018, average of $2.86.Ohio currently ranks 19th in most expensive gas in the United States' 50 states.Price contributorsOhio's gas tax increased by 10.5 cents per gallon for regular fuel and 19 cents per gallon for diesel starting in July. The tax was part of a bill for road improvements.
