Fall festival for art offered at Merry-Go-Round Museum

SANDUSKY — The Merry-Go-Round Museum is joining forces Saturday with the Sandusky Art League to present a "Fall Art Festival" at the museum.From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, admission to the museum, 301 Jackson St., will consist of two cans of food, said Kurri Lewis, executive director of the museum. Visitors who don't have any canned goods may pay $2 instead.The canned food and the money will be given to Care & Share of Erie County, the charity at 241 Jackson Street that provides food, clothing and other goods to county residents who need help.And whether they are donating food or money, admission Saturday will be a considerable savings over the usual admission for getting inside the museum: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for kids 4-14.It's a good event for local people to support local artists and the museum, Lewis said, and it should also provide help to Care & Share."We did this last year. I (took) over a ton of cans (to Care and Share)," Lewis said.The artists are being presented by the same folks who do the Art Walk in Sandusky, Lewis said.Judy Corso from Art Walk said the event may offer an opportunity for a bit of early holiday shopping."There will be several of our regular artists with jewelry, paintings, cards, decorative night light bottles, baked goods, handmade purses and old mailbox banks just to name a few. We'll have cider, donut holes and cookies and free rides on the Merry Go Round. Many items will be holiday themed," Corso wrote in an email to the Register."The mission of Art Walk has always been to promote downtown and our local artists," Corso wrote.The Merry-Go-Round Museum, devoted to the history of carousels and the carved wooden creatures on them, opened in 1990."The Merry-Go-Round Museum displays artifacts that add to the public's awareness, knowledge and appreciation of the history of the carousel," the museum says on its website, which offers memberships to people who wish to support the local attraction.The Merry-Go-Round Museum is housed in a former post office building at Washington Street and Jackson Street.
