Admiral's Pointe recognizes veterans

HURON — A local nursing and rehabilitation facility honored residents Friday who served in the military.Admiral's Pointe, in Huron off of Cleveland Road, honored 14 residents who served and protected the country at a special breakfast."This is very near and dear to our hearts," said Trisha Brown, the administrator for Admiral's Point. "This our way to thank them for their service to our country."Brown said the event wouldn't have been possible without activities director Lisa Hudson who spearheaded organizing the event and created special plaques for each veteran."I made these with the help of the families to honor each of veterans and to give them something to help them remember that we care," Hudson said.She unfortunately never got to present Winfield Bledsoe, a decorated Air Force veteran, with his plaque because he died in October. In a tearful moment, she presented it to his wife and son as a way to remember him.Admiral's Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation in Huron hosted a special breakfast Friday for its residents that served in a branch of the U.S. Military. Lisa Hudson present the plaque she made for Winfield Bledsoe, who died in October, to his son and mother.Nate Mealy, the chief legal counsel for the Ohio Department of Veterans Services and a major in the Army, also attended the event."We want to draw attention to not only to what they did while they were in the military, but also to the example they've set as veterans," Mealy said.[Imageuncropped=ADMIRAL VET N.jpg]Stein Hospice also partnered with the facility for the event. Mark Faust, an Air Force veteran, who works with Stein and is the president of the Erie County Veterans Memorial Park Committee, was impressed."They work really hard to honor the veterans here," Faust said. "It's one of the better veteran events we go to."The efforts to recognize their service were not lost on veterans like Paul Digby, who served in both the Marine Corp. and Army."It makes me feel proud to have served," Digby said. "I really appreciate what they've done and the effort they put in."Hudson's son, Joshua, is a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and came to the event to help present the pins, plaques and certificates to each of the veterans. After the presentation, Hudson released two doves for the veterans that died.
